Becoming a member of the IVLA community means that you agree to abide by our rules of etiquette in all of your forum activities, whether posting messages, responding to messages, sharing private messages (PMs), writing personal profiles, or any other place you may communicate on, in, or surrounding the forums.
In sum, we ask you to follow the basic rules of normal society when it comes to showing respect for others.
Personal Information: For everyone's safety, do not post identifiable information on the boards.
No unethical, immoral, or illegal activities. Do not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY law.
No profanity or inappropriate pictures: the IVLA community is a place for families and their children - they do not need to be exposed. Period. If you are caught using profanity or posting inappropriate stuff on these forums, you will be warned. If you do it a second time, you will be banned.
No Religious debates: Families of all spiritual beliefs are welcome here. Mainstream faith based forums are okay. If you don’t agree with the viewpoints in those forums – Don’t go in those forums. See the “Don’t Flame” rule below.
Politics: This is a homeschool forum. If and when politics mixes with homeschooling, okay, otherwise – Not.
Post in the correct forum: Always try to post your topics in the correct forum, as that makes the admin/moderator's job that much easier.
Do not flame anyone on these forums: Just because you may not agree with someone's beliefs, that doesn't mean you have the right to flame them. If you flame anyone on these forums in anyway, you will be given a warning and you will apologize to that person. If you flame again, you will be banned, no questions asked.
Speak about subject-matter, not persons. You will avoid many fruitless arguments and hurt feelings (both your own as well as others') if you seek always to speak to the subject matter under discussion, the specific content, rather than comment about the person who posts or the character of the person the poster quoted. Point out what you believe are weaknesses in the evidence; don't cast aspersions on the poster's character.
Be NICE. Please remember that facial expressions do not come across a post. How you mean one thing and how someone takes it can be two totally different ways. Please try to remember that.
Copyright Material: Do not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material.
No spam. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also inappropriate in the community Forums. (Spam includes sending identical and irrelevant or unsolicited submissions to many different users, and includes misrepresenting the source of anything you post.)
Honest identity/no impersonation. You agree not to impersonate anyone
Do not share your Password. For your protection and valid security reasons, you agree never to share your password with another community member.
Commercial Enterprises – Subscription Services are available. Please use them.
Periodically, the publisher or seller of a curriculum or other homeschooling product will attempt to advertise for free by spamming the boards. Don’t. Pretending to be a “homeschool mom” and pushing a product is spam, it will be removed.
Please do not ask for donations, conduct surveys, or attempt use the community discussion boards to develop material for your own books or projects, including homework, without our prior approval. There is no way for us to validate whether a given person, survey, charity or project is valid.
