Teacher Spotlight – Heather Boyd

At IVLA, we are blessed with many amazing teachers! One such teacher, Heather Boyd, joined our IVLA faculty last year. Mrs. Boyd teaches middle school English and mentors middle school students and was kind enough to answer some questions for us.

Where were you born? The state of Illinois in America. A long time ago.

What can you tell us about your family?  I have two girls, ages 8 and 5.  They are my biggest accomplishment!

How long have you been a teacher? 8 years

All-time favorite book and/or movie: A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

Favorite Food: Mexican

Can you tell us something about yourself that your students and families may not know?  My passion in life is traveling. I am a wandering soul. I have visited 43 American states and 21 countries. I have had the absolute privilege to live in Spain for two years as well. It is my hope to live overseas again!

Why did you choose to become a teacher?  I remember reading some fantastic novels when I was in middle school and I knew then that I wanted to be a teacher and share my love of reading, history and learning with children. Yep! I knew when I was 14 years old that I was going to be a teacher. I never wavered from that career path!

What brought you to IVLA?  I move every few years and I no longer could teach in a traditional classroom.  I sought a school that would give me the flexibility to move and take my career with me!

What do you like best about teaching with IVLA?  The students! I absolutely love interacting with my middle school students. I love that IVLA literally brings the world together in learning. Teaching and interacting daily with students across the globe brings me such joy. I never tire of hearing where my students live, what their favorite activities are and where they may be traveling to next!

Thank you, Mrs. Boyd, for helping us to get to know you better! And thank you for your hard work with our IVLA students and families!
